Reflexive Pronouns ( สรรพนามตนเอง ) คือสรรพนามที่แสดงตนเอง แสดงการเน้น ย้ำให้เห็นชัดเจน มักเรียกว่า -self form of pronoun ได้แก่
myself. yourself, yourselves, himself, herself, ourselves. themselves, itself มีหลักการใช้ดังนี้
* ใช้เพื่อเน้นประธานให้เห็นว่าเป็นผู้กระทำการนั้นๆ ให้วางไว้หลังประธานนั้น ถ้าต้องการเน้นกรรม (object ) ให้วางหลังกรรม เช่น
She herself doesn't think she'll get the job.
The film itself wasn't very good but I like the music.
I spoke to Mr.Wilson himself.
* วางหลังคำกริยา เมื่อกริยาของประโยคเป็นกริยาที่ทำต่อตัวประธานเอง
They blamed themselves for the accident.
พวกเขาตำหนิตนเองในอุบัติเหตุที่เกิดขึ้น ( ตามหลังกริยา blamed )
You are not yourself today.
วันนี้คุณไม่เป็นตัวของคุณเอง ( ตามหลังกริยา are )
I don't want you to pay for me. I'll pay for myself.
ฉันไม่อยากให้คุณเป็นคนจ่ายเงินให้ ฉันจะจ่ายของฉันเอง
Julia had a great holiday. She enjoyed herself very much.
จูเลียมีวันหยุดที่ดี เธอสนุกมาก
George cut himself while he was shaving this morning.
จอร์จทำมีดบาดตัวเองขณะทีโกนหนวดเมื่อเช้านี้
หมายเหตุ ปกติ จะใช้ wash/shave/dress โดยไม่มี myself
* เมื่อต้องการจะเน้นว่า ประธานเป็นผู้ทำกิจกรรมนั้นเอง
Who repaired your bicycle for you? Nobody, I repaired it myself.
ใครซ่อมรถจักรยานให้คุณ. ไม่มีใครทำให้ฉันซ่อมเอง
I'm not going to do it for you. You can do it yourself.
ฉันจะไม่ทำ( อะไรสักอย่างที่รู้กันอยู่ ) ให้นะ คุณต้องทำเอง
By myself หมายถึงคนเดียว มีความหมายเหมือน on my own เช่นเดียวกับคำต่อไปนี้
on ( my/your/his/ her/ its/our/their ) own มีความหมายเหมือนกับ
by ( myself/yourself ( singular) /himself/ herself/ itself/ ourselves/ yourselves(plural)/ themselves )
เช่น
I like living on my own/by myself. ฉันชอบใช้ชีวิตอยู่คนเ้ดียว
Did you go on holiday on your own/by yourself? เธอไปเที่ยววันหยุดคนเดียวหรือเปล่า
Learner drivers are not allowed to drive on their own/ by themselves.
ผู้ที่เรียนขับรถไม่ได้รับอนุญาตให้ขับรถด้วยตัวเองคนเดียว
Jack was sitting on his own/by himself in a corner of the cafe.
แจ๊คนั่งอยู่คนเดียวทีีมุมห้องในคาเฟ
